A Historical Journey to DMZ Tour, Itaewon Stroll, and Myeongdong Shopping Spree
On the seventh day of our Seoul journey, my husband and eldest son embarked on a half-day tour to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). We initially booked the tour via KLOOK for a seamless and convenient journey. While the boys are out the girls and I stayed home to pack. However, we made the most of our day by exploring the vibrant streets of Itaewon, indulging in delectable churros, bubble tea, and macarons. Later, the entire family reunited in Myeongdong for some last-minute shopping and an unforgettable food trip.
DMZ Tour: A Journey Into History
As my husband and son embarked on their DMZ tour, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation for the stories they would bring back. While they delved into the historical significance of the divided Korean Peninsula, I busied myself with packing. From the fortified border to the poignant reminders of a divided nation, their experiences allowed them to grasp the impact of Korea’s past and the hopes for a peaceful future.
Venturing into the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in South Korea was a captivating and thought-provoking experience that opened their eyes to the complexities of the Korean Peninsula. Their journey took them through the stark landscapes, accompanied by knowledgeable guides who shared intriguing stories and historical insights. They stood at the infamous border, gazing across the heavily fortified line that separates North and South Korea. The tension in the air was palpable, reminding them of the division that persists to this day.

They visited the Joint Security Area (JSA), where they caught a glimpse of North Korean soldiers standing guard. The sight of soldiers from two nations facing each other was a powerful reminder of the fragile peace that exists in this region. At the Third Tunnel, they descended deep underground to witness the audacity of North Korea’s secret tunnel network. The sheer scale and purpose of these tunnels left them in awe and deepened their understanding of the ongoing conflict.
As they concluded their DMZ tour, they were left contemplating the complexities and human stories that lie behind the political and military tensions. The experience not only heightened their awareness of the historical significance of the DMZ but also fostered a sense of hope for peaceful reunification in the future.
The DMZ tour was a stark reminder of the importance of diplomacy, understanding, and compassion. It served as a testament to the resilience and determination of the Korean people, who yearn for a unified and peaceful Korea.
Exploring Itaewon’s Culinary Delights
With the boys away and after I finished packing, the girls and I decided to explore the vibrant streets of Itaewon. This multicultural district offered a plethora of tempting treats. We couldn’t resist the mouthwatering churros, which were crispy on the outside and delightfully soft on the inside. To cool off, we savored refreshing bubble tea, with its combination of flavors and textures. As we strolled through the lively streets, we couldn’t resist the allure of a charming French macaron shop, where we indulged in the delicate, colorful treats. Itaewon’s cosmopolitan atmosphere, with its fusion of cultures and cuisines, left us feeling invigorated and inspired.

Reunion in Myeongdong:
At around 3 PM, we reunited with the boys in the bustling district of Myeongdong. Known as a shopper’s paradise, Myeongdong offered a plethora of options for our last-minute shopping spree. The vibrant streets were lined with trendy boutiques, international brands, and bustling street markets. We immersed ourselves in the bustling atmosphere, browsing through racks of fashionable clothing, accessories, and cosmetics. Myeongdong’s energy was infectious, and we couldn’t resist joining the crowds in search of unique souvenirs and gifts.
Our shopping adventure worked up quite an appetite, and luckily, Myeongdong is renowned for its street food. We once again indulged in a gastronomic feast, sampling mouthwatering delicacies such as tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), hotteok (sweet pancakes), and crispy fried chicken. The aroma of sizzling food filled the air, adding to the vibrant ambiance of the district.

Our 7th day is more of just a chill day, enjoying the city lights, the chilly weather and the food. It was a day of adventure, culinary exploration, and quality family time. While my husband and son embarked on a historic journey through the DMZ, the girls and I indulged in the delights of Itaewon. We headed early to our AirBnB accommodation to finally finished packing our stuff for tomorrow’s flight back home.
